Thermal oxidation with regenerative heat recovery (RTO) for GFK production

Posing the tasks

During the first work-step in the manufacture of ship hulls out of GFK, the negative mould forms are coated with a layer of gel coat in a spraying process. Correspondingly, relatively high concentrations of the solvent, styrol, escape in the exhaust gas, which must be cleaned according to the provisions of TA-Luft.

Solution / Highlights

Through an optimised air-management system in the robot-spray booth, the exhaust air volumes to be treated were reduced to the point that one 3-chamber RTO system, model ROXITHERM RTK, could be operated extremely economically.

The exhaust air volume flow adapts itself automatically to the demands of the spray booth. The exhaust air volume flow in the spray booth is reduced to a minimum.

In that styrol tends to condensate at room temperatures, the system is outfitted with a "burn-out" function, which makes it possible to vaporise caked accumulations in the inlet area of the heat reservoir.
