Posing the tasks
During the production of peroxides in a chemical factory, peroxide-loaded exhaust gasses ensue, which must be cleaned with an appropriate technology according to the requirements of TA-Luft.
Solution / Highlight
Based on the relatively small exhaust air volume flows and the raw gas composition, a catalytic oxidation system with recuperative heat recovery was selected as the most economical and operationally safe solution.
Due to the high reaction propensity of peroxide compounds and the corresponding explosion hazard, the system was designed as a pressure surge protected model. Appropriate rupture discs and deflagration arresters were integral to the safety concept.
Installation and connection within a chemical production system required stainless steel as construction material for the entire system.
A rooftop installation for the system was selected due to the space limitations, as well as for the containment of damage in the event of an accident.
