The Challenge
The manufacture of speciality chemicals’, such as Li-Ion batteries, air conditioning units, high performance seals and the analytical chemistry involved, typically results in the generation of a wide variety of unwanted organic hydrocarbon-based air pollutants, as well as halogenated hydrocarbons and pure hydrogen. In order to comply with German TA Luft exhaust emissions regulations, manufacturers are required to install air pollution control technology to reduce these pollutants to within acceptable levels.
LTB Solution
For such applications, LTB thermal oxidiser (TO) units are the technology of choice.
TO technology from LTB is designed to regulate the exhaust gas’ oxygen content and maintain system underpressure >130mbar via a high-speed suction fan. The pollutant process stream then feeds, via a redundant back-up flame system, into a vertical “concentric tube” combustion chamber where it mixes with sufficient cooling air (ca.10,000 Nm³/h). The combustion chamber is lined to protect against particulate and slag by-products formed during combustion. Post quenching, downstream packed-bed scrubber units remove any remaining inorganic pollutants including halogentated hydrocabons (e.g. HCl, HBr).
