Posing the tasks

A manufacturer of special graphite products has extended his production capacities, which also lead to an increase of sulphurous raw materials input.
In order to meet the actual emission legislation, a new flue gas treatment system was required.

Solution / Highlights

For the treatment of this exhaust gas flow and composition, the Regenerative Thermal Oxidiser (RTO) technology combined with a downstream dry sorption provides maximum destruction efficiencies at low running costs.
In order to cope with the heavy tar and condensate load of the exhaust gas, the ROXITHERM units are equipped with a modified valve system and a special "burn-out" mode, which allows an internal cleaning.
As there is also a reasonable content of sulphurous compounds in the process exhaust, which cannot be treated within an RTO system, an additional process step has been installed downstream the ROXITHERM. This consist of an absorption system with sodium bicarbonate injection and fabric filter for de-sulphurisation.
Based on the limited installation space on site, the system had to be integrated on a new steel structure between two existing buildings.
The compact design and the low specific system weight of the ROXITHERM has been a major advantage for this installation.
